There's some solid AI-fobia around here on the Fediverse; such a shame. If people use the tooling well, they can do great things with it.

@jorijn I don't fear the nonsense engine, I simply think (as a writer) that a good tool to use in a data centre would be a few pounds of C4

@jorijn No.
There are no "great things" from right wing tech bros, stolen data, and fossil fuelled data centres unless you're into white supremacy. If so, what are you doing here?

@jorijn I think it's a perfectly reasonable take to be a sceptic.
We've had years of the companies telling us it will make everything better, immediately. Then no, it might kill us. Then they tell us it's so smart it hacks governments.
But in reality all we've got are generic auto response emails and cheap restaurant menus that emulate the artisanal vibe of 2016. And in addition we've now also got heavy users who delegate all their thinking to machines

@jorijn my problem is the cost of using an IA tool instead of our own mind and "classical" resources. Since you cannot stop people using that for silly things maybe there should be an higher threshold to use them.

Also, the speculation for IA is making prices for computing greatly exagerated. That's no good for any actual user. Just for investors, better, speculators

@koolinus@masto.cazzo.lol I agree. We’re in a time where it’s heavily subsidized. Once that cools down, prices increase, demand slows down, and it doesn’t make sense anymore to use it for frivolous things. I hope.
