Gave my second blood donation earlier this week, and this morning I found out combining this with #running is a difficult thing. It knocked a full minute of my regular Z2-pace. Felt likt crap during the entire run.

I’ve read that runners usually donate plasma instead of blood due to shorter recovery times, so I’ll be exploring that option.

In a week or two, I'll be leaving for a 10-day #motorcycle trip to Andalusia in Spain 🇪🇸. In the meantime, I'm training for a half-marathon, so I guess I'll have to train by #running beside the beach. I am very much looking forward to this trip. ☀

#introduction

👋 Hey, I’m Jorijn Schrijvershof, a freelance DevOps engineer from the Netherlands.

Driven by open-source and automation, I work on projects from Kubernetes clusters to self-hosted Bitcoin tools.

Outside tech, I'm a sports enthusiast into running, Krav Maga, and weightlifting. Proud dad, husband, and cat dad to two Maine Coons. 🐾

I'll mostly post about #technology, #opensource, #running and spending time outdoors, either by foot or on the #motorcycle. 🏍️

Ran a new personal best for the 5K during training. 2025 is starting off great so far. 🏃‍♂️💪

I recently remembered that when #twitter started, most people attached their GPS coordinates to their tweets. People shared the most random stuff, and I met some lovely people through the “Nearby” feature. The timeline was always full of pictures of coffee and food.

I miss how weird the internet was back then.

I am back on Mastodon after a period of using GotoSocial. While I really enjoyed many aspects of GotoSocial, I ultimately missed two-factor authentication, push notifications, and Ivory.

The last deciding factor was Mastodon’s announcement that it is restructuring its business, which gives me more confidence in the software's stable and promising future.

@arutaz my handle jorijn.com uses the instance social.jorijn.com now. I was wondering if I could move the handle to a new instance on a new (sub)domain

@DevWouter Hence my confusion. I'd hate to break two instances at once. 😅

@DevWouter This was my initial idea, yes. I'd like to take the root domain as a handle with me, though, but I suspect I need to get over that idea. It's a shame you can't re-use domains with ActivityPub. I've burned some nice ones with previous experiments, haha.

@DevWouter Yes, that's what has me worried. I assumed you could update the web finger redirect on the root domain to the new instance. Technically, that would work, but I'm unsure if an instance's public keys are stored on the instance domain or the web domain.

Question about ActivityPub federation: Can you reuse a web domain (jorijn.com) with another instance? Or will this break the federation, too?

@ricard if they're stirring in the same Redis database, that would cause some issues for sure.

Hey @dansup - if you want to get @pixelfed up and running on #kubernetes and do some scaling magic, hit me up. I know a thing or two about handling lots of traffic.

Also, congratulations on the app launch! 🚀

@moelholm Very impressive. That must cost a lot of time.

@moelholm That's an amazing accomplishment, well done! How does the volume of your training look like before these kinds of races?
