#mastodon
Something has been bothering me lately.
Mastodon is praised for genuine human interaction, mutual respect, and the lack of engagement-driven algorithms.
Yet trending posts often still feel confrontational. People may ask for justified respect while resorting to generalizations, hostility, or contempt.
Anger at mistreatment is understandable, but respect cannot apply only to people we agree with. A healthier network also depends on how we choose to speak to one another.
I turned off boosts for all the accounts I follow, making my timeline more deliberate. Now I only see posts from people I selected to follow. It might not be the default Mastodon experience, but it works well for me.
Pretty cool to see the #cloudflare outage in these new charts. The `push` queue on #mastodon is showing heightened errors since 12:48. The `retry` queue is rapidly growing.

The old "oh no, your lifetime purchase was for our OLD app.."
Here's your occasional reminder to download a complete backup of your Mastodon data.
Go to `/settings/export` on your instance and hit request.
On some days it annoys me to great lengths that everywhere I go, look or listen, something or someone is trying to sell me stuff.
Enjoy the ad-free platform folks. Here you get to choose what you look at.
Did you know you can block unknown people from sending you private mentions? It's in the web interface under “Preferences”, then go to “Notifications”.
This is your daily Mastodon security reminder to:
a) Go through your active session list and revoke every device that you're not using anymore (<instance>/auth/edit)
b) Set up Two-Factor authentication (<instance>/settings/two_factor_authentication_methods)
c) Revoke authorized applications that you're not using anymore (<instance>/oauth/authorized_applications)
d) Backup your account (<instance>)/settings/export)

#devops update
Plan for tonight is to have Kubernetes scale the #mastodon Sidekiq workers depending on queue size with KEDA, instead of CPU usage. Goal? Squeeze every last drop out of the servers.
