Behold, the majestic sky lion in mid-rawr.
Slowly getting back into #running. As it turns out, my endurance hasn't fallen back much since I stopped back in February due to a recurring knee injury.
The big challenge right now is to slowly ease back into it again, without injuring myself.
Having some fun with glow-in-the-dark PLA for my 3D printer.
(Planning on printing some decorations for my daughter's room)
Restic is a neat little piece of software.
I got a new robot vacuum. It has a button that finds my cat and opens a live video call with them.
I had to open my home to the Chinese, but now my cat won't be lonely.
This has been an ongoing thing for a few days now.
My 1.5-year-old discovered a hole in her sock yesterday. The world could have been on fire, but that was the most important event of her day. It was all she wanted to talk about. 🧦
Spend a couple of days figuring out why Varnish kept increasing its RSS memory usage, eventually leading to OOMKills. It turns out Varnish on ARM is compiled against glibc, which is known for not returning memory very effectively.
This morning, I created a build for ARM with jemalloc and memory usage has been cut in half. Very solid stability and performance so far.
I completed a smooth Mastodon server migration this morning with only 8 minutes of downtime.
I prepared carefully; the web, streaming, and sidekiq components were active on the new cluster but connected to the old PostgreSQL and Redis, enabling an early DNS switch.
The switch involved promoting the streaming replica database to primary and syncing with redis-shake. I redeployed with the new settings and we were set to go.
All that on a Friday. :-)
It's been my #newyearsresolution to quit drinking caffeinated coffee and alcohol for the entire year. We've been well into the fifth month of this year, and I'm holding strong.
I had my fair share of cravings, but I'm really enjoying being energized and clearheaded all the time. My sleep quality has increased tenfold, and I no longer need to sit in quiet existence for an hour each morning before becoming a pleasant human being.
