Servers are purring along nicely but had some issues processing peak times last night. Halting registrations again since I don't want to increase costs more and want to safeguard current user-experience.

#devops update

Plan for tonight is to have Kubernetes scale the #mastodon Sidekiq workers depending on queue size with KEDA, instead of CPU usage. Goal? Squeeze every last drop out of the servers.

For the ones eagerly waiting on Mastodon v4 for #tootcommunity: I'm awaiting a stable release + a couple of days. Stability and reliability is everything. Don't feel comfortable with running a release-condidate.

The current costs are manageable, and regardless of the success of this campaign, this instance will remain. Donors will help me allocate more time to keeping this instance secure and providing a home for everyone interested in Mastodon.

I will ultimately design a system where our growth will organically slow down, as I think the #fediverse is best handled by numerous distinct instances to protect its decentralized nature.

Just browsing through the local timeline a bit before grabbing a beer after a nice #caturday. I'm beginning to suspect https://toot.community now consists of 99% cat-people.

For everyone that's already a member of this instance, I'm just temporarily halting public (joinmastodon.org) signups to ensure a proper user experience. You can still generate invites to bring over friends and family.

I'm halting registrations on https://toot.community 🔒 . This instance gained almost 6k users in 9 hours. I need to reconfigure some server stuff. Will be back (and open) with a plan. 😎

Two hours ago I wrote that we just surpassed the 1k mark. 3.2k right now. The growth rate has been insane.

The servers have been hiccupping a bit, but managing well so far.

Instance management: We have 1k+ users now. I have disabled the incoming relays as I suspect we're hooked into the fediverse enough through our own users now.

Bittersweet to see the #mastadon experience tainted by growing pains. It’s a good sign that the interest is growing however and these pains are just temporary. Give your favorite instance the chance to catch up, it’ll all work out.
