It turns out that if you place the Seeed SenseCAP Solar P1 Node strategically, it can withstand the harsh Dutch winters.

In mid-January, we experienced two or three weeks of no sun, only snow and rain. The charge dropped to 65%, but a few hours of sun brought it back to over 90%.
It hasn't fallen below 85% since then. What a neat little device.
In my opinion, Al Dente is a hidden gem and a must-install app for every Mac you own.
It's this time of year in The Netherlands, when we had a few warm days, and now I'm in full denial that it's technically still early spring.
I'll throw my money at whatever company can fix children's songs from messing up my algorithms.
Meet our mark.
We asked andycarolan to capture two ideas in one symbol: a tree, for the name Arbory, from Latin *arbor*, and a growth curve, for what the app does.
The result: an emerald circle with layered chevrons rising from the base. Three greens, carefully chosen. Look once and you see a canopy from below. Shift your eye and it becomes an upward trend.
Arbory is a native iOS client for plausible, made for people who chose privacy on purpose.
Humble brag:
I bought the Kubestronaut bundle at KubeCon this year. Tested the waters with CKAD and scored 96% on the killer.sh simulation exam. You only need 66%. Nice! :-)
Removing Hetzner's private networking from the #tootcommunity infrastructure definitely cost me a few years of my life. It's now running on a public WireGuard mesh. No more vSwitch shenanigans!
En op school vinden ze het gek dat ze geen foto's van mijn kinderen mogen publiceren op het internet.
Hetzner's vSwitch remains a brittle point in the #tootcommunity infrastructure. I'll be switching to a WireGuard Mesh soon (Talos Kubespan) to mitigate this.
Holy croissants, hotels/apartments in the centre of Rome are expensive in June.
Heading out to #kubecon tonight. I'll probably be posting about that a lot next week, so here's your reminder that you can mute hashtags.
Followup ☝
I picked up this little project again. I honestly dislike that staying with a company I no longer align with out of ease was the best option. I bit the bullet and migrated to a self-hosted Vaultwarden. It's not as polished, but we'll get there.
What the hell. I registered a new domain name, and someone added it to their Google Workspace, preventing me from adding it to mine. The internet is a strange place.
I've been testing a custom spam detection system for new registrations. Accounts get a score that determines whether they are silenced (due to uncertain intent) or outright suspended (if malicious intent is clear).
Surprisingly, 44% of new accounts are spam or bots. However, I am pleased to share that spam and propaganda have been reduced to almost zero.
Since I'm upgrading my laptop from 14" to 16", it's triggered an interesting chain reaction. The 16" doesn't fit the current backpack, so it needs to be upgraded.
I haven't told my wife that it might not fit the #motorcycle either.
But! The weather was fantastic, and the route was stunning. I really enjoyed the first 17km, at least. Still, I’m very proud of my achievement. The goal was to finish it in under 2 hours, and I came very close.
Ran my first half-marathon yesterday: 2:03:33.
The first 17km felt controlled. Power on target, everything according to plan. Then km 18 happened, and the plan left the chat.
Lost 75 seconds per km over the final 4km. The post-race data analysis was clear: turns out I was running on half the fuel I needed (49g carbs/hour instead of 80+) while holding a power target (303W of CP 325W) that was too ambitious for the duration.
Lessons were learned here.
Circle of my phone life: Sees a shiny case, buys it, prefers the naked feel of the phone after a few weeks. Repeat.
