I like the thing where you dread starting something because it looks super hard, and you do it anyway, and it turns out you learn a bunch of stuff, and it's not all too bad.

Purchasing the next tier would be easiest, and I believe money would not be an issue. The #tootcommunity donors are absolutely the best.

Part of me feels like we would be overpaying for a simple increase in storage, as we're nowhere near the plan's limit in regard to CPU/RAM.

I'd love to learn from the rest, how are you handling this?

Open question: We're running Kubernetes on DigitalOcean and are using their managed database offering for Redis and PostgreSQL.

Compute-wise we're good, and I like the price/value that DOKS offers, but we're starting to grow out of our PostgreSQL plan. It offers 140 GB storage for $120/month, with 4vCPU/8 GB RAM.

The DB is reaching 110 GB, and we're due to hit its limits in ±40–60 days. The next tier for storage is double the cost.

Tell me about your setup, I'd love to know.

With all those profits flying around in the banking sector, you'd think they'd at least be able to build half a decent app. Yes, I'm looking at you, Rabobank.

From the daily life of #devops. Me:

1. Assumes there's no documentation.
2. Gets angry about the lack of documentation.
3. Writes documentation.
4. Finds said documentation when storing written documentation.

Chugging along nicely at 99.9%+ uptime. Please, Elon, don't move.

Finished “Why we sleep” by Matthew Walker this weekend. Easily one of the best and most eye-opening books I've read over the years.

Started in “The Science of Self-Control” by Menno Henselmans.

I'm doing this to curb the endless misuse of social media while I should be doing more important work/chores.

Did you know loss of focus isn't just because focus is a finite resource? Turns out to be wrong, contrary to what I always believed. It's because we get bored and crave little dopamine hits.

Thought about taking the week off for some #motorcycle riding. Needless to say, I’m working this week.

This is Kaylan, our 11-year-old Maine Coon. We call him Grandpa. 👴🐱

His theory is very basic.

Board games equal people. People equal attention. At some point during the night, he'll come up and flop down in the middle of your game.

We tolerate it, and pet him, catering to his wishes.

I love this guy.

Every so often, I wonder why we pay a small premium towards DigitalOcean for using their Kubernetes and Managed Databases offering.

I'm reminded of why we did so in the first place when I get to upgrade the most vital infrastructure with the press of a button, without any downtime for our users.

That concludes today's maintenance. Have a splendid day ahead. :tcl: :tcr:

Doing a Kubernetes upgrade for #tootcommunity. New security patches and OS images incoming! ✈️ :kubernetes:

After diner walk.

Today, in iCloud's spam filtering adventures: 16 new emails, of which 14 false-positives.

This is ridiculous.

I'm still running with IntelliJ ultimate since the days I was a full time developer. Now as a DevOps Engineer, it feels a bit overkill.

Any tips for great settings and extensions for VS Code to give it a shot?

Good morning everyone. 👋

I literally just got coffee, went through some email and when I thought about taking a sip, I discovered the cup was already empty.

This stuff vanishes without even thinking about it. ☕
